Lady Winston outpaces pack in A4 race at Sunderland
Maintaining a steady pace over the pack is something that essential for victory in any greyhound race. Lady Winston managed to do just that as she won the first of two back-to-back A4
races at Tetley’s Sunderland Greyhound Stadium on Thursday 28 October.
Lady Winston, the even-odds favourite, had a great start from trap two, leading the run up to claim the victory in 27.46 seconds. A distance of 7½ lengths separated first place from second,
with Kizzys Hawk (7-2) earning the number two spot after a crowded run up. She completed the race with a time of 28.06.
George Bungle (5-1) was the third-place finisher, running on to earn his position in 28.14. He was a single length behind second place. Finishing just a head’s length out of the top three
was Mill Mercedes (3-1), who held an early pace from trap five, and had every chance to win the race. She wound up in fourth place with a 28.15 finish.
Aughermon Jack, the 10-1 long shot, moved slowly away from the pack early on, losing three lengths in the process. He placed fifth with his time of 28.39. Sixth place was claimed by Hughs
Astro (8-1). A clear run was not enough for him to win, as he finished the race in 28.40, a shoulder’s length behind Aughermon Jack.
In the second A4 race, Mick The Gambler (3-1) took a gamble that paid off for him in the end. Coming out of trap three, he led first on the way to a 28.11 finish that earned him first
place. Clattermole, the 9-4 favourite, locked up second place after baulking first, and crowding third. He ran on to finish in 28.37, 3¼ lengths out of the top spot.
Third place went to Allowdale Jet (5-1), who went wide out of trap six, and held every chance to win. His 28.51 finishing time placed him 1¾ lengths behind the favourite. Urban Man (4-1)
experienced some difficulties in this race, as he crowded first and three-quarters and bumped second, losing 2½ lengths in the process. He finished with a time of 28.71.
National Spring (7-2) also had some problems, as he crowded the first and second bend after moving slowly away. He went on to finish fifth in 28.81, which was 1¼ lengths behind Urban Man.
The sixth and final position was earned by Markeys Marina (6-1). Of the three dogs that finished in the bottom three, she experienced the most difficulty after having very badly baulked first. She completed the race in 31.21.
Tetley’s Sunderland Greyhound Stadium will host another exciting race meeting on Friday, 29 October. The first race of the evening begins at 19:30.
