Lady of Fifty to go 3 out of 5 starts in the California Oaks at Golden Gate Fields
The non graded $100,000 California Oaks at Golden Gate Fields on 21 January, 2012, has drawn 7 three-year-old fillies, and among those is the Jerry Hollendorfer trained 3-year-old filly, Lady of Fifty, who is exiting a front running victory in the one mile long Corte Madera Stakes last month.
She will look to stretch her speed a little farther for the California Oaks, as the race is run over a distance of 1 1/16 miles over an All Weather track.
Trainer Jerry Hollendorfer is opted for two more fillies apart from Lady of Fifty.
He has entered Olympia Star owned, Milania, and the Kentucky bred daughter of Bernardini, out of mare Keeper Hill by Deputy Minister, the 3-year-old filly broke her maiden at first asking at Hollywood Park’s cushion track over at 1 1/16 miles.
She broke her maiden on 17 November, 2011, under jockey Rafael Bejarano, while covering the distance in 1 minute and 46.21 seconds.
The trainer’s third entry is the Jerry Hollendorfer’s Halo Farms owned, Sweet Nothings. She is coming off a runner up finish in the Corte Madera Stakes.
In the field of seven, the Kentucky bred daughter of After Market, Lady of Fifty has made four starts thus far, and out of those the roan/gray filly managed to land three.
She has gone on to win consecutive stakes races where she started off in November by taking the Golden Gate Debutante over at a distance of six furlongs which she managed to cover in quick time with a gate to wire finish.
Come 3 December, 2011, Lady of Fifty didn’t show as much pace as she did in her last stakes race, but dug it out by setting slow fractions and then gamely romping through the stretch to post a half length victory over her stablemate, Sweet Nothings.
Russell Baze in irons for Lady of Fifty this time around for the 1 1/16 mile test, and the pair drew post number 4, carrying 122 pounds, 4 more than the rest of her opponents, while Sweet Nothings this time drew the rail and will race under jockey Aaron Gryder.
