Laetitia Perez and Jeremy Badre win 50m backstroke title: Day one – National Open of Montpellier
Laetitia Perez of Switzerland and Jeremy Badre of France met expectations of their fans by winning gold medals of the 50m backstroke in Women and Men’s category on day one of the 2012 National Open of Montpellier on February 3.
The 21-year-old Perez dominated the single lap backstroke event and devastated hopes of her competitors by clinching gold medal of the race. She experienced strong resistance from Cloe Recoules of France, but managed to pocket gold medal of the event.
She won the crown of the event by touching the wall in a wonderful time of 30.39 seconds. She was followed by the 17-year-old Recoules, who remained 1.02 seconds behind the gold medallist and hit the wall with an effort of 31.41 seconds.
The third spot of the race was secured by Perez’s team-member, Ava Pretre, who stayed 0.24 seconds behind her former finisher and appeared on the finishing end by submitting an effort 31.65 seconds.
Subsequently, the arena witnessed a remarkable performance of Badre in the Men’s 50m backstroke. The 21-year-old Badre demonstrated his expertise in the one-lap backstroke event and smothered all struggles of his opponents by claiming top spot on the podium.
Badre remained just a nail away from his following swimmer and cemented his place on the podium for gold medal by producing a time of 27.21 seconds. He was traced by his teammate, Christophe Soulier, who stayed just 0.04 seconds slower and secured silver medal of the event by completing his swim in a time of 27.25 seconds.
The silver medallist was followed by Tennessy Gallotta of France, who was only 0.36 seconds away from overwhelming the effort of his foregoing finisher and hit the finishing blockade with an effort of 27.61 seconds for bronze medal.
Badre was contented with his gold winning effort in the backstroke discipline and aroused expectations of his fans by articulating that he will try harder to improve his position at the 2012 London Olympic Games.
The audience enjoyed remarkable efforts of all participating swimmers while the position holders were invited on the victory stand and awarded medals at medal ceremony of the championship.
