Laffan likely to thrive in Jersey Stakes
Laffan looks to be in the most favourable position to lift the ace title of Jersey Stakes, a high-profile Class 1 contest that will take place at Ascot racecourse today, June 20. The action is set to start at 2:30 (GMT).
Pursuing the prize cheque worth £39,697 on the good track of 7 furlongs, the Kevin Ryan-trained bay gelding will have to face 25 competitors including some strong ones like Ishvana, Fort Bastion, Valbchek and Sentaril.
Laffan possesses a glorious track record with fifty percent success ratio. Since the dawn of the calendar year, the three-year-old veteran horse has been at the peak of form as all of his victories have come during this period of six months.
In the first decade of January, the maverick sprinter bagged a couple of consecutive triumphs. In both of these races, that took place at Southwell park, Laffan had been a favourite runner.
After getting a third on April 8, the brilliant son of Dark Angel out of Lady Corduff moved on to accomplish a grand triumph each on May 19 and June 1.
These classic feats have perked up the horse’s morale to a great extent along with making him a favourite prospect for the Jersey Stakes.
But despite this, Laffan’s march towards the finish line is not going to be easy as Ishvana and Fort Bastion will give him enough tough time.
Ishvana marvellously notched up a conquest on May 2, 2012. The A. P. O’Brin-trained bay filly stepped ahead to get a third along with a runner-up rank later in the same month, gaining a lot of confidence.
On the other hand, Fort Bastion accomplished two superb victories in a row during May 2012. The Richard Hannon-trained bay colt is geared up to complete his maiden hat-trick in the Jersey Stakes.
Thus, both these runners can prove to be fairly dangerous for Laffan.
Among the other participants, Valbchek and Sentaril look to be strong enough.
Valbchek has won both the races of his career so far. The Jeremy Noseda-trained bay colt debuted on March 26, 2012. The same goes with Sentaril who has also finished first in all the two races since starting her career on April 20, 2012.
In this situation, there is expected to be an awe-inspiring clash at Ascot. Let us see who turns the tables. Good luck to all the contestants.
