Laguna Beach boys volleyball team defeats Beckman Patriots by 3-1
Laguna Beach has been having a good time playing volleyball as they have been able to show some consistency lately.
The recent match that the Breakers played took place on Tuesday in which they were up against the Beckman Patriots. The match in which both the teams contested against each other was the semi-final of the Southern Section CIF tournament. By the time that
the night was out, the Breakers had secured themselves a ticket to the final of the championship by winning the semi-final by 3-1.
As the Breakers cheering shouts filled the Dugger Gym while Beckman started heading out of the court with heavy steps, the scoreboard displayed the following final set scores: 26-28, 25-22, 25-19 and 25-22.
With their recent win, the Breakers have been able to improve their overall number of season wins to 20. These victories have been bagged at the cost of 10 losses as well. The team that Laguna Beach will be playing in the finals is the one that hold a far
better performance record than that of the Breakers. Corona del Mar, the other finalist, has a total of 28 wins to boast of in this season so far. These victories have been accomplished after having experiencing losses that are impressively low at four.
As soon as the first set of the match started, the Breakers were able to take the lead for themselves. This put Beckman under pressure early on in the game. It was not until the middle part of the game that Beckman was able to close in the gap and tie the
match at 19-19. After that point, a tug of war ensued between the two teams. The competition ended when Beckman was able to give the final tug that enabled them to secure the first set of the match at 28-26.
Like the first set of the game, the Breakers were able to take the lead at 3-2 early on in the second set as well. Once they had the lead, the Breakers kept on extending their advantage and the pressure kept mounting on Beckman. Never once in the entire
second set could Beckman overtake the Breakers in the lead. As a result, the second set was bagged by the Breakers at 25-22.
Capitalising on the momentum built by winning the second set of the game, the Breakers were able to come out strong in the third set too. They were able to bag the third set easily at 25-19.
After winning two sets in a row, the Breakers did not have a hard time in securing the fourth one as well at 25-22.
The final match of the tournament is scheduled to be played on Saturday between Corona del Mar and the Breakers.
