Lahern Dancer to race for the first time after getting drilled at Shelbourne Park in the Ladbrokes Irish Greyhound Derby Round 1 Heat 1
None of the candidates for the Ladbrokes Irish Greyhound Derby Round 1 Heat 1 have recently won at the Shelbourne Park. The 550 yards race will be raced at the Shelbourne Park on Wednesday, 1st August. The prize money for the race being contested
by six is €250. The only credible lightly raced entry on the line-up today is the three-year-old black hound, Lahern Dancer.
Hondo Black’s son raced just once during the previous season thusly majority of his races and successes are lined up in the current season.
He has predominantly raced at Cork and has tried his luck at two other venues including the Shelbourne Park.
The three-year-old won the career debut on 20th May, 2011 at Cork over 525 yards. Entered as the evening’s favourite, he won the race in 29.36 seconds and won by the margin of 5 ½ lengths. Finishing the closest as the runner-up was, Free Shadow.
His entrance in the new season was not exactly how and what trainer, O’Neill, had expected as the under charge went way down after winning the career debut. The next four races of the black hound transformed into a phase that was not lucky for him and made
him go through a series of failure.
However, without any drilling this time, the black son out of, Gneeves Way, struck a hat-trick. He won a 575 yards race on 21st July, 2012 at Cork. Setting into an early pace and leading for the rest of the distance got him the race in 31.56 seconds
with two lengths under his belt.
The only time that he raced at the Shelbourne Park was in the Grade A2 Betting On The Tote A2 Dual Distance Semi-Final over 525 yards. The race was won by Snow Adam in 29.99 seconds as Lahern Dancer settled in as the runner-up after timing the track distance
in 30.07 seconds.
His chances of claiming the race tonight have enhanced due to the drilling session that he recently had at the Shelbourne Park over 525 yards on 26th July, 2012. The 8 to 1 entry accomplished the task in 28.79 seconds.
