The Bayern Munich skipper claimed that the Blues will not like Europa League experience next season after consistently playing in the Champions League for years.
Jupp Heynckes’ side will face Chelsea in the final of the UEFA Champions League on Saturday, May19, at the Allianz Arena. Both sides have a lot at stake in the game as Bayern look to secure their first trophy of the season after
disappointments in the league and the German Cup whereas the Blues are in a must win situation as a loss would put them in the Europa League next year.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roberto-c31294 Di Matteo’s side finished in a dismal sixth place in the English Premier League this season and can only qualify for the UEFA Champions League by winning it against Bayern Munich.
Lahm claimed that it would be a disaster for his counterparts if they lose the final as they will have to play in Europe’s second tier competition from next season. He insisted that Bayern finished fourth in 2007 and had to take
part in the Europa League the following campaign which wasn’t a great feeling.
The defender insisted that the likes of Bayern and Chelsea are used to playing in Europe’s premier club competition and a demotion would certainly be very bad for the club.
“It would be very bad. Very bad. In 2007, we were fourth and only in the Europa League, and that felt very bad. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 is comparable to Bayern Munich. We're both always used to playing in the Champions League so, if you're thrown
into the Europa League, that's bad,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
The German international stated that playing teams such as Getafe instead of the likes of Real Madrid is not a very good feeling and not very easy to get used to.
“It's difficult. We played against Getafe in the quarter-finals of the Europa League that year. Normally, I'd go to Madrid to play against Real at that stage of the year. That's the difference. It's not easy to get used to,” he
concluded.
Chelsea have reached the final of the Champions League for the second time. They lost to Manchester United previously in 2008 in Moscow.
