In a 9th round match of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Division Two, Lahore Ravi defeated Peshawar by 56 runs to gain 9 important points. With this victory, Lahore Ravi is now on the 5th spot on the points table with 36 points, whereas Peshawar
is struggling at the 9th position in 10 teams with only 15 points after 9 matches. This would be a worrying sign for the fans of cricket in the northern areas of Pakistan, which has produced many great players for Pakistan in the past.
At the Qaddafi Stadium Lahore, the home team won the toss and interestingly elected to bat first on bowling friendly conditions. The decision was definitely brave but did not turn out to be a wise one as the home team was bowled out for a mere 193 in 50.3
overs. The situation for Lahore Ravi could have been much worse without a heroic knock by the opener Abid Ali who has represented Pakistan Under-19s and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755-A in different tours. Abid Ali scored 78 runs off 128 balls with the help of 12 fours. However,
he failed to find any support from any of his team-mates apart from the wicket-keeper Zeeshan Ali who scored 23 runs off 40 balls with the help of 2 fours and a six.
Test cricketer, Riaz Afridi and Imran Khan picked up 4 wickets each for the visitors as Afaq Ahmed and Akbar Badshah took a wicket each.
In reply, Peshawar was not able to match the 1st innings score of the home team as the visitors were bowled out for only 168 runs and as a result, conceded a 1st innings lead of 25 runs. Opener, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Israrullah-c1608 remained the top-scorer for
Peshawar with 45 runs off just 36 balls with the help of 6 fours and a six. Skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Akbar-Badshah-c42517 also showed a good fight with 35 runs off 66 balls in which he struck 4 fours.
Abdul Ghaffar and Asif Raza picked up 4 wickets each for the home team as Asif Ashfaq took 1 wicket for his team.
In its 2nd innings, Lahore Ravi was in a strong position at one stage with 107 runs for the loss of only 1 wicket but from that situation, the whole team fell like a house of cards and was dismissed for only 149 runs. Junaid Jan remained the top-scorer
for Lahore Ravi with a fighting 55 off just 81 balls with the help of 10 fours. Abid Ali impressed once again in the 2nd innings with 43 runs off 63 balls in which he struck 7 boundaries.
Test fast bowler, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Riaz-Afridi-c84793 picked a 5-wicket haul in the 2nd innings for Peshawar. Akbar Badhshah also bowled an impressive spell in which he got 3 wickets for just 8 runs.
In the last innings, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Peshawar-c832 required 175 runs to win the 9th round fixture of the Quaid e Azam Trophy 2010-11 and should have achieved the target on a track that was now easing out for the batsmen. But the visiting team was bowled out for only
118 runs in the last innings in just 36.4 overs. Sajjad Jan was the top-scorer for Peshawar with 35 runs but did not find any support from any of the top order batsmen.
Fast bowler, Abdul Ghaffar picked a match-winning 5-wicket haul for Lahore Ravi, whereas Asif http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ashfaq-c46260 took 4 wickets and ably supported him.
