Lahore to face Faisalabad in PHF Super Junior Hockey League Finals: Hockey Recap
The Lahore team will face-off against Faisalabad in the finals of the 3rd Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) Junior Super Hockey League, currently being held at the National Hockey Stadium Lahore.
In the semi-finals, Lahore narrowly edged past Sialkot by a single goal, 2-1 while Faisalabad overwhelmed Multan by a convincing two points.
In first half of the opening game, Lahore displayed dominance on the field with their ball possession. The strikers from Lahore managed to take the ball into the defensive circle of Sialkot, but failed to capitalise on the earned chances. The defensemen
from Sialkot brilliantly cleared the ball on many occasions.
In the 15th minute of the match, the attack from Lahore team was on a roll when they finally earned their first penalty-corner of the day. This opportunity was comfortably converted by Mohammad Fahad through a dribbling drag-flick, getting the
lead by a single point, 1-0. An end-to-end play was observed in the remaining time period of the first half and period was concluded with Lahore sitting on top at 1-0.
The Sialkot team picked up pace in the second half of play to make a comeback into the game. Ali Butt of Sialkot unleashed a power flicking shot at the goal-post in the 41st minute and giving no chance to the custodian of Lahore's team to stop
the ball. With this goal, the score became tied at one-all.
After the tying score, the pace of the game increased with both sides attempting to get a go-ahead goal. Lahore soon counter-attacked the Sialkot circle with a short-corner awarded in the 55th minute of the game. This opportunity was converted
in the hands of Mohammad Fahad through a low-flying shot at the corner of the goal. The Lahore's team showed stiff defence in the remaining time and rode away the field by a one-goal win, 2-1.
Faisalabad defeated Multan by a commanding two goals in the second semi-finals of the league. The players from Faisalabad opened up the contest with offensive approaches and carried out numerous attacks. With ten minutes on the clock, Bilal Qadir, the captain
of the Faisalabad side, managed to take the ball away and struck a powerful shot at the Multan goal.
Multan missed plenty of sure goal scoring chances and failed to chase the lead from Faisalabad. In the 69th minute of the match, Waseem Abbas converted a penalty corner and sealed the Faisalabad victory at two-nil. Lahore will meet Faisalabad
on Sunday, May 08, in the finals of the tournament.
