Lake Nona wins 5th Tavistock Cup title
The defending team, Lake Nona, has won the title of the Tavistock Cup, by defeating Isleworth and two others, at the Lake Nona Golf & Country Club, Orlando, Florida.
Lake Nona is the leading team of the Tavistock Cup. It has won four titles since 2007 and has now registered its fifth glory as well.
More impressively, the team has gained enough popularity after winning four consecutive titles since 2009.
All the six players of the team played extremely well and scored a 41-under par at the end of the day, on Tuesday, March 20, 2012.
They started the two-day event impressively and competed well for the title. In the first round, Ben Curtis and Peter Hanson scored a 9-under.
Similarly, Ross Fisher and Retief Goosen also played well and also added a -9 on the leaderboard.
Later, Graeme McDowell and Gary Woodland of group six further added a -6 to the team's scores. The combined score of the team was a 24-under in the first round.
Isleworth was maintaining a lead over Team Lake Nona with a 26-under score and a two-stroke lead on Monday.
The competition was tough and all the six players of Team Isleworth showed extra efforts against the defending champion Lake Nona.
However on Tuesday, the six members of Team Lake Nona carded several birdies and reached the top of the leaderboard.
Curtis scored a -2, Goosen -5, Fisher -5, Hanson -1, Woodland -1 and McDowell scored a 3-under par. They added a -17 to the final scores and secured the leading position at the end of the day.
Woodland and Curtis faced many hurdles on the course, as they carded a number of unimpressive bogeys, whereas the rest of the players were simply awesome, as they scored birdies and par-scores.
"I think it's definite bragging rights you know, I mean four in a row speaks for itself," McDowell said. "They're going to have to do something else to us".
"It would have been nice to knock that last one in. I had a couple of birdie putts on the last few holes," Goosen said.
Most of the players of all the teams will be moving to Bay Hill Club & Lodge, in order to deliver their performance at the PGA-staged, Arnold Palmer Invitational, slated to take place from March 22 to 25.
