Lakers’ Kobe Bryant and Magic’s Dwight Howard honoured NBA's Players of the week award
NBA: Los Angeles Lakers’ Kobe Bryant was honoured Western Conference’s player of the week for his contributions in the games played from 21 March through to 27 March. On the other hand Orlando Magic’s Dwight Howard was given player of the week honours for
the Eastern Conference for the games played in frame of the same week.
Both the players made enormous contributions in a week that stretched from Monday to Sunday and helped build a smooth path for their teams respectively.
Let us take a look into Bryant’s contributions made in the week. Under the interim leading power of Bryant, the Lakers recorded a loss free week that was made up of three victories.
On 22 March, he took the Lakers over the Phoenix Suns towards a triple overtime victory, 139-137. Another big win includes Lakers rout of the Los Angeles Clippers that took place on 25 March, 112-104. The week closed with a 102-84 big win over the New Orleans
Hornets on March 27.
The Lakers were able to pull out a seven game winning streak out of the player’s commendable participation. With his charismatic leadership, the Black Mamba surpassed every opposition that came in his way to average 36.3 points in the week.
In the triple overtime victory over Phoenix, the player scored his season high 42 points with an addition of 12 rebounds plus nine assists that left him shy of a triple double. By doing so, the player secured a 40-point game for the 107th time
in his professional basketball career.
In the contest against the Clippers, the shooting guard posted 37 points plus six dimes to help his team beat the opposition. He tallied 30 points, to go with five assists and three rebounds plus two steals over the New Orleans Hornets to finish a blemish
free 3-0 week for Los Angeles.
Howard was ranked Eastern Conference’s player of the week for his brilliant contributions made in the same week. The player received this honour for the sixth time this season which is an honour in itself.
Orlando produced a remarkable loss free 3-0 week as Howard led his team towards their third longest winning streak of current season, winning five games in a row. Orlando’s 6’11” tall centre made an average of 27.3 points, league best 14.3 rebounds and recorded
a .717 shooting that is recording 27 of 38 shots. The player topped the league with his 3.3 blocks per game and held second position with 2.3 steals per game.
As the player sparkled, the Magic breezed past Cleveland Cavaliers to a 97-86 win on March 21. This was followed by a 111-99 victory over the New York Knicks and another impressive routing of the New Jersey Nets on March 25, 95-85.
In the contest against the league worst Cavaliers, the player scooped out 28 points plus 18 caroms, dished out four assists, made four blocks and took four steals to clinch these unique numbers that were scored earlier only by Hakeem Olajuwon. The latter
scored those 21 years ago on 3 March, 1990 by clinching 29 points, 18 boards, 11 blocks, 10 dimes plus five steals in a game against the Golden State Warriors.
Howard made 33 points, plus 11 rebounds, adding three blocks and dishing out two assists in the New York win. Whereas 21 points, 14 rebounds, three blocks and two steals were made in the contest against New Jersey.
Also in the run to become best players of the week were Tony Allen, Zach Randolph, Chris Bosh, LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Russell Westbrook and Marcus Thornton.
