Lakers’ forward Derrick Caracter arrested on count of battery for hitting and public intoxication
The Los Angeles Lakers’ reserve Derrick Caracter is arrested on alleged battery of waitress at a pancake restaurant in New Orleans on Sunday morning. Caracter was also accused of public intoxication and showing resistance on arrest.
It has been reported that the 22-year-old Caracter was arrested and taken into jail on early Sunday after he shoved a waitress at an International House of Pancakes. When the waitress refused to give any services to Caracter, he became furious and in the
very next moment he allegedly grabbed and shoved her. Though the woman was not injured by his actions, but his very behaviour cost him US$1,000 bond, which resulted in release by the police later in morning.
The on-duty police officer Harper said in a statement, “He was obviously drunk and continued to be belligerent with police. He started grabbing and pulling a pregnant waitress, prompting the manager to go outside and flag down a police officer, the female
officer tried to defuse the situation, but Caracter remained obstinate. The officer arrested him.”
The police further mentioned the details as Caracter was firmly handcuffed and was taken into the New Orleans Parish jail and they booked him under several charges. The police said Caracter has violated three municipal offences including hitting a person,
public intoxication and showing resistance during police arrest. The police later declined the fact as the woman was pregnant.
The Los Angeles Lakers’ spokesperson John Black revealed as the Lakers management is looking into this matter and did not allow Caracter to speak in the media. However, Caracter joined the Lakers in Monday’s training session at El Segundo complex in California.
Derrick Caracter is a reserve power forward of the Los Angeles Lakers. He came in Los Angeles when the Lakers picked him in the second round last summer. He was selected 58th by the Lakers in 2010 NBA draft. Despite the fact that Caracter had
taken-out his name from the 2008 NBA draft, left the University of Louisville and joined the University of Texas at El Paso.
Caracter also sat out 2008-2009 season for playing in the big league (NBA) as per NCAA’s requirement and made himself eligible for the next season where the Lakers picked this young talent.
Caracter has played 41 games so far for the Lakers in which he scored 81 points and 43 rebounds as his averaged remained 2.0 points and 1.0 rebound per game. The Los Angeles Lakers are currently playing with the New Orleans Hornets in their best-of-seven
of the first round series and Caracter has not been given any chance yet to play in the post-season matches. The first round of series is tied at 2-2 and the next game is of paramount significance for both the teams.
Derrick Caracter may not be a decisive player for the Lakers in the post-season games, but these kinds of incidents certainly damage the franchise’s reputation.
