Lakewood Lancers boys’ volleyball team defeats Jackrabbits by 3-2 on Thursday
The Lakewood Lancers boys’ volleyball team was locked in a competitive match with Poly on Thursday.
Both the teams displayed good skill at the courts and were able to take the match to five long and thrilling sets. The spectators went home entertained after Lakewood was able to secure itself a win at 21-25, 22-25, 25-17, 25-19, 15-13.
The recent win has brought Lakewood closer to the championship title of the Moore League. If they are successful in winning the final match this time around, it will not be the first time that Lakewood would be called the champions of the Moore League.
Interestingly, the start of the match found the Lancers in troubled waters as they could not quite get into form. By the time that the Lancers were able to find their flow, the Jackrabbits were already two sets up against the Lancers. However, the Lancers
did not let the 2-0 deficit dampen up their spirits and went on to win the next three sets of the match.
The opening game of the match saw the Jackrabbits take the lead early on. They were able to gain control of the court by securing the first several points.
However, the Lancers did not shy away from giving the Jackrabbits competition and were able to get the lead at 18-16. The Jackrabbits did not let the Lancers stay in control for long and took the lead which went on to a win at 25-21.
The second set of the match unfolded much the same way as the first set with the Jackrabbits in control early on. The Lancers kept on trailing behind but in the end, the Jackrabbits were the ones who were able to bag the set. By the time the set had reached
its close, the final set score stood at 25-22.
It was as if a rejuvenated Lancers team stepped onto the courts at the start of the third set. They were able to step up their game and give the Jackrabbits a real challenge. Therefore, both the teams stayed almost neck to neck during the entire course of
the game. For the most part, there was more pressure on the Jackrabbits than the Lancers. As a result, the Lancers were able to avoid a clean sweep and win the third set of the match 25-17.
Once the Lancers had bagged the third set of the game, the next two came easy for them. Capitalising on their momentum from winning the previous set, the Lancers did not have much trouble in earning themselves a match win at 25-19 and 15-13 respectively.
“Oh, we’ll be starting our starters for the rest of league,” said Lancers coach Jeremy Moenoa, as his team celebrated behind him. “We’re not taking anybody for granted.”
