Lakewood Lancers sweeps past Wilson Bruins boys volleyball team on Thursday
Volleyball is increasingly becoming a sport that is being taken up enthusiastically at the high school level. Seeing the popularity of the sport among the younger crowd, many schools in the nation have taken it upon themselves to provide their students with
a good training program that would lead them to harness their skills and become more than competitive to take part in volleyball at the university level.
A boys team that perfectly falls into the category of fine athletes is the Lakewood Lancers who do not fail to impress the spectators every time they enter a court. This time around, the Lancers had a match with the Wilson Bruins whom they were able to defeat
in three back-to-back sets.
The match that took place on Thursday between the two teams saw the clean sweep made by the lancers over the bruins at the following set scores: 25-18, 25-20, 29-27.
At the beginning of the first set of the game, the Lancers were able to take the lead for themselves by making a 8-2 run.
However, the Bruins did not let it falter them and kept on charging ahead until they were able to tie the score. All through the middle of the game, both the teams went neck to neck with each other.
However, in the final stages of the game, the Lancers were able to pull up ahead and secure themselves a win a t 25-18.
The Bruins did not let the loss of the first set of the game affect their confidence and they were able to step up their game in the second one. The score was tied at the fourth point and the scoreboard kept on showing a tie till the 13-13 mark. However,
the Lancers again displayed superior skill and were able to outperform the Bruins as they charged ahead. By the time that the set reached its final stages, the Lancers were able to dominate it and get themselves a win at 25-20.
Winning the first two sets of the game got the Lancers on with their momentum. They were able to put on a great show in the third set of the match as well. However, the loss of the first two games increased pressure on the Bruins as they needed to make a
win in order to get a chance at winning the match.
However, the effort came in too late from the Bruins as the lancers took the final set of the game at 29-27.
“We were just inconsistent… we’re young in the middle and we didn’t pass well enough to win,” said Wilson head coach Susan Pescar. “I’m disappointed because we played no to lose.  You have to just go for it, you can’t be tight.”
