Lalit Modi, BCCI fail to reach compromise over probe members
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the former Indian Premier League chairman, Lalit Modi have informed the Supreme Court of India that they had failed to reach a compromise over the composition
of the disciplinary committee. The IPL disciplinary committee was appointed by the BCCI to investigate into the alleged fraud that was committed by Modi.
The BCCI had earlier appointed http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shashank-Manohar-c89791, the chief of BCCI, Arun Jaitley and Chirayu Amin, the current IPL chairman to hear the case and pass on the recommendations to the BCCI. However, Modi asked
for the recusal of Manohar on the grounds that he was biased against Modi. Manohar agreed and was replaced by J Scindia. However, Modi then asked for the recusal of both, Jaitley and Amin on the grounds that both were biased against him and the BCCI had refused
to do so.
This will mean that the next hearing of the Supreme Court will be held on 11 November. Earlier, the Supreme Court had offered a couple of suggestions; either to increase the number of members of the disciplinary
committee or to keep the current members of the disciplinary committee away from council which will take the decision on Modi’s alleged transgressions.
Earlier, the High Court had refused to entertain the case and told Modi that since the BCCI was a society, the appointment of the members of the disciplinary committee was an internal matter. However, they
had said that Modi could come to them in case he felt that the justice had not been delivered.
Modi was suspended from being an IPL chairman immediately after the conclusion of the third edition of the IPL. However, he has not been in the country since then and has had the Enforcement Directorate push
charges of financial fraud against him. Already, he has been warned that his passport may be revoked if he does not return back to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 but Modi has alleged that he cannot return to India because of threats to his life.
