Lalla Aicha Tour School: Camilla Lennarth grabs share of second spot in second round
Camilla Lennarth of Sweden exhibited a solid performance in the second round of Lalla Aicha Tour School 2013, posting a 65 to take the share of second position along with amateur Emily Taylor.
Lennarth was not sure how to make a quick charge when she finished her first round at Al Maaden Course in Marrakech, Morocco. She shot a 70 on the first day on Thursday, standing at the 25th position.
However, the Swedish golfer picked up pace in the second round on Friday and managed to register a massive 65, which caused her to surge from 25th position to a tie-2.
Despite making a big score, the round was not devoid of challenge. Lennarth faced a stiff competition on Friday, with Spanish Virginia Espejo shooting a 66 to take a solo lead.
On the other hand, amateur Taylor also posed serious challenge to Lennarth. Taylor shot a 66 to rise from the 13th spot to tie-2, which is a considerable gain for the little-known player.
Lennarth started the round on the front nine, but had to suffer a bogey on the first hole. She then parred the next three holes in a row and launched two straight birdies on the 5th and 6th.
The young gun whipped up crowd excitement after she shot her third birdie on the 9th hole. On the back nine, she carded a birdie on the 10th, stepping up pressure on nearest rivals.
Although the greens of the Al Maaden Course were a bit more challenging, Lennarth’s short game was strong enough to keep her on the safe side. She further cemented her position by shooting eagles on the 15th and 18th.
Sharing her thoughts while speaking to the media at the end of the round on Friday, Lennarth said that she is more than thrilled after outperforming most of her rivals and confident to keep the momentum going in the next two rounds.
She said that her performance was a bit shaky in the first round because she missed several good chances on the greens.
“I’m very satisfied. I didn’t get off to a very good start. I was struggling, didn’t hit the ball very well and then just decided to let loose and not really think about the consequences too much,” she said.
