Lalla Aicha Tour School: Emily Taylor clings to second spot in fourth round
English amateur Emily Taylor remained strong in the fourth round of Lalla Aicha Tour School 2013, further cementing her position after she carded a 67 to stand at the second spot on the leaderboard.
If Taylor manages to keep the momentum going all the way through in the fifth round on Monday, her chances to remain inside the top 30 are brighter than most of her rivals.
Those standing at the 30th position and ties will receive the LET (Ladies European Tour) membership for the 2013 season.
So far, Taylor has held her ground, remaining firm in the first four rounds. But the last round could turn into an even tougher battle, with professionals seeking to step up their scoring campaign.
English amateur started the round on Sunday with a clear head. She shot two back-to-back birdies on the first two holes. She then parred the next hole and launched her third birdie on the par-4 4th.
On the back nine, Taylor maintained her grip, carding another two birdies to further strengthen her position on the second position. The round went without a bogey.
Sharing her thoughts while speaking to the media at the end of the round, Taylor said that she felt a bit under pressure coming into the fourth round, but her putting and drives were strong enough to keep her on the safe side.
“I made a good start and birdied the first two holes, but seemed to stall after that. I had a good finish with two birdies on the last two holes,” said the 18-year-old.
She went on to say that avoiding a bogey in the round further boosted her confidence. “I am happy with five birdies and no bogeys. My driving and general game was good and it was a solid day”.
Thai Ariya Jutanugarn has stunned every contender in the lineup, seizing the solo lead after she fired a 65 in the fourth round on Sunday. Making a surprise charge from the third round, which saw her shoot a 64, helped her rise to the top.
The young star is likely to keep the pressure intact in the fifth round as she is three strokes clear of nearest contender Taylor.
