Lam Chih Bing plans to improve his rank in the Asian Tour Order of Merit
Lam Chih Bing of Singapore plans to make a surge in the Asian Tour Order of Merit, with a strong finish this week at the Barclays Singapore Open.
The prestigious US$6 million tournament will be played at the Sentosa Golf Club, Singapore, from November 8 to 11, 2012.
In 2008, Bing entered the final round three shots off the pace. However, a disappointing 79 on day four pushed him back at the tied 18th place on the leaderboard.
Right after one month, he bounced back strongly with a win in the season-ending Volvo Masters of Asia as his first Asian Tour victory.
This week, he plans repeat his heroics of the first three rounds of the 2008 edition, in order to move into the top-60 in the Asian Tour Order of Merit.
He currently ranks 90th in the standings. Therefore, if he fails to make it to the top-60, he will have to return to the qualifying school, in order to earn his card for the 2013 Asian Tour season.
Talking to the Asian Tour’s official website, he said that he will try not to think about the rankings. In fact, he plans to play his natural game, and cheer up his fans with a good display of his skills on the course
“I just want to come out here and play four solid rounds,” said Lam.
The Singaporean also believes that his experience on the venue course will provide him advantage over the competitors.
Furthermore, he also expressed his wish of becoming the first ever local player to win the Barclays Singapore Open.
“It’s such a great event and for Singaporeans, I think it’s really like a major for us. It’s one tournament that we looked forward to all year. You always look at the schedule and see when the Singapore tournament is,” said Lam.
“It’s always at the back of your mind that you want to come back here. I definitely have great memories out here. I’ve played well in a couple of Singapore Opens and qualified for British Open twice out here as well,” added Lam.
