Lam Narissapat, Saralee Thoungthongkam step into second round of SCG Thailand Open 2012
Women’s Doubles campaigners Lam Narissapat-Saralee Thoungthongkam trod into second round of SCG Thailand Open after stamping Pia Zebadiah Bernadeth-Rizki Amelia Pradipta in first round on June 7, 2012.
The local crowd got solid reason to celebrate when the native couple placed winning figures of 21-17, 15-21 and 21-16 on the board after an exhausting exercise of 48 minutes.
Though, Lam Narissapat and Saralee proved their mettle in opening match but they still have to test their skills against fourth seeded Malaysian duo Eei h*i Chin-Pei Tty Wong.
Earlier in first set of their opening match, they excelled their challengers despite of a scratchy start. They lost four vital rallies but then accelerated the pace and reached at 7-4 in no time.
They established a respectable four-point lead in 10-6 total but then committed some unforced errors which destabilised their position before the one-minute break.
After the interval, the Indonesians gathered speed and equalled the score at 11-11 with four back-to-back points.
However, the Thai shuttlers also gained four consecutive points and reinstated their dominance. They were at total of 18 when their competitors threatened them with a swift progress at points table but they finished this race with a decent margin of 21-17.
The second set brought life back into match as Zebadiah Bernadeth and Rizki Amelia forged some fruitful chemistry to avoid a straight-set defeat.
They made a huge difference by dominating nine rallies straight away in the start and managed to end first half with total of 11-6.
After mid-game interval, they raised their score to 16 but faced bit trouble in proceeding when the opposing team narrowed the gap at 16-15.
At this stage, they employed unusual tactics and overshadowed their competitors with powerful smashes and deceiving drop net shots. The Indonesians bagged second set of the match with 21-15 and setup a nerve-racking third set.
There was lot of drama in the decider as it kept swinging between two contenders all the way to final moments.
The Thai ladies were hanging by thread to stay alive until 15-16 but they tipped the scale in their favour by snatching last six points in concluding figure of 21-16.
