  1. Boil order lifted

(July 18, 2008) LAMAR - The problem of turbidity in Lamars city water system is over, and tests for it being potable (drinkable) have proven negative, no bacteria of any kind in it. After reviewing the test results and Water Plant Foreman Rick Hornbecks written accounting of the entire episode, the Missouri Department of Natural Resources (DNR) lifted the boil order around 9:30, Friday morning. Hornbeck had faxed his report to DNR earlier the same morning.

Samples of water taken throughout the city system were tested by a Joplin laboratory on Tuesday and Thursday with both tests showing negative.

The problem of turbidity started during the first week in July and manifested itself on July 4. The cause was found to be the intake pipe at the city lake coming loose from its depth regulating chain and falling to the lake floor. DNR issued a boil order on July 10.

City Administrator Lynn Calton says every part of the citys water system has been repeatedly flushed clean in dealing with the episode.

  2. "State officials on Friday lifted a boil order that had been imposed July 10 on the water system for the city of Lamar."
