Lamar Odom apologizes to Mark Cuban and the Dallas Mavericks fans – NBA News
Lamar Odom is the former 6th man of the Year and one of the key reasons why the Los Angeles Lakers were able to win back to back NBA championships in 2009 and 2010.
Odom was a starter for the Lakers up till the 2008-09 season, when he became their go to guy off the bench. The forward excelled in his new role. He averaged 14.4 points and 8.7 rebounds in the 2010-2011 season, one which proved
to be his last with the Lakers.
The summer following the season, Odom joined the defending champions Dallas Mavericks as they looked to improve their roster and go for another title run. He had huge expectations on his shoulders as he joined the Mavs, but heavily
let down the whole team during the season.
LO averaged 6.6 points and 4.2 rebounds for the Mavericks, while looking un-interested in basketball and was infact a negative impact on the Mavericks roster and locker room. The Mavericks front office and owner Mark Cuban were
so displeased by his performance and attitude that they let him go before the season even ended.
And now, after clinching a new role with the Los Angeles Clippers, the player is looking to reach out to his former boss and fans of the Mavericks organization. Ric Bucher of ESPN tweeted on September 28th that Odom
wanted to personally apologize to Cuban and the Mavericks fans.
“Lamar Odom, unprompted, told me he’d like to apologize to Mark Cuban and Mavs fans for not being himself. Felt it was beyond his power,” wrote Bucher.
Cuban however decided against commenting on Odom’s apology on the media day. Odom is now a member of the Clippers team, who picked him up in the offseason to add some depth and maturity to their roster in order to make a deeper
playoff push.
He again has some big expectations on his shoulder, and needs to live up to them if he wants to still be taken seriously in the NBA. Odom is a talented player who has shown his skills over the course of his career on countless
occasions. However, he now needs to prove that he still has the urge and spirit to compete at the highest level, through his game and actions both on and off the court.
