Lamb having heart or lung trouble?!?!?

I have a Market Lamb, A Hamp, and when ever we get him out of the pen to work with him, he Jumps instead of walks, and then he lays down and pants real hard after about 3 jumps, he acts like he is very exhausted, i need to find the illness within the next week because i show in about 2 weeks plz help!

  1. There is no way I could answer this correctly without having seen the lamb, but I do have a couple of other questions that might help you along your way.

    Are you sure it is not feet or leg problems?  Check his feet, legs for cuts, swelling, and other unusual things.  Does he limp when he walks around in his pen?

    Has he been eating well?  Does he have diarrhea?  That would be an indication of a real illness.

    Here's my best guess.  One thing that is very common in lambs is that they eat too fast and often get obstructions in their throats.  Usually this causes choking, which leads to death by suffocation.  However, your lamb might have a partial obstruction which is allowing him to breathe, but not very well.  You might be able to see the obstruction and free it, if not, a vet can.

    Whatever the solution turns out to be, your lamb has been under a lot of stress.  I would advise giving him some B-12 complex (get it from your vet) to help boost his system and get him back to normal before your show.


  2. go to a vetarinarian that will work on a lamb....and then let the lamb rest for a few hours.
