Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert has denied speculation linking his club with a move for former Liverpool and Manchester United striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-Owen-c25355.
Owen was released earlier this month by Manchester United and is currently available as a free agent, looking to extend his Premier League career.
The player has expressed his desire to continue playing as a professional football player and has also made it clear that he will only consider offers from top-flight clubs.
The 32-year old claimed on his official Twitter account that a number of offers had been made for his services and that he is currently considering his options. He stated on Tuesday that he is ‘getting closer to finding a new club’.
Owen was the Premier League’s top goal scorer in 1998 and 1999. His status as a player rose at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809, the club where he began his career. Owen scored 118 goals in 216 appearances for the Merseyside club and then moved to Real Madrid in 2004.
He returned to England in 2005, signing for Newcastle United, but injury problems have plagued his career since his move back from Spanish giants, Real Madrid.
Owen signed for Manchester United in 2009 after serving as a Newcastle player for four years. He managed only 31 appearances for Manchester United, scoring 5 goals along the way.
The experienced striker was linked with a number of Premier League clubs, with Stoke City, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Paul-c29347
Lambert has denied all rumours and claims that Owen is not part of his plans.
"No, that won't happen," he said speaking to an English newspaper.
"There was no enquiry from us; I don't know where that one came from.”
"That's a non-starter. He's a top player, no doubt, a really top player, but that's for another team."
Aston Villa had also been linked with Liverpool’s out of favour striker Andy Carroll, eyeing a possible loan move for the player. Lambert himself had stated his interest in the player, but recently cleared the air and distanced himself from all speculation.
He added: "There's nothing on Andy Carroll, no."
