Villa have hard work to do this season if they wish to improve upon last season’s disappointing and below par campaign. The club only managed four home wins in the previous campaign, and there had been a lot of expectations placed on Lambert to guide Villa
back into the top half of the league.
The club finally got a victory against an impressive and in form Swansea City side. Going into the game, Swansea had been tipped as favourites to steal a win, but Villa had other plans as they cruised to a comfortable 2-0 victory.
New signing Matthew Lowton opened the scoring for the club via a 20-yard volley, which was followed by a second half goal by Christian Benteke.
The Belgian striker was a £7m deadline day signing by Lambert, and scored on his debut for the Clarets. The player impressed the fans and the manager, who was full of praise for the forward.
"I thought Christian was unplayable. He was an absolute threat. The great thing is he's only 21, only a kid and still learning.” Lambert said.
