Villa recently lost a pre-season friendly against Nottingham Forest in a 3-1 score line, but despite the defeat, Lambert was impressed by the new pairing.
Vlaar had been a long term target for Lambert ever since the Scotsman made his move from Carrow Road to Villa Park. The manager had been looking to change the Villa squad in a number of ways, adding new players in order to strengthen the team and compete
for a top half finish in the Premier League next season.
Aston Villa had been woeful last season, narrowly avoiding relegation and managing only four wins at home. This is a very alarming and poor statistic that shows how below mediocre Villa were.
Lambert has added three fresh new faces to the squad; http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Brett-Holman-c8047, Karim El-Ahmadi and now Ron Vlaar. All three players come from the Dutch Eredivisie, and are very good signings. Ron Vlaar had been chased by Lambert for quite some time. The player had
even flown into http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 last month to discuss the details of his transfer, but there had been some complications which delayed the move.
It looked as if Vlaar would stay at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Feyenoord-c39258, especially when he himself stated uncertainty over his future. A move however did go through eventually, and Vlaar made the switch to Villa Park last week by signing a three-year deal.
The 27-year old centre half will reunite with former teammate El-Ahmadi as both players join the revolution at Villa Park. Vlaar made his debut for Villa in the pre-season friendly against Nottingham Forest and was able to impress the manager.
Lambert was happy to see Clark and Vlaar pair up at the back and said that both players compliment each other.
