Aston Villa manager http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ron-Vlaar-c31697. The 27-year old Dutch centre-half made his debut in the pre-season friendly against Nottingham Forest and stood out despite Villa losing 3-1.
Paul Lambert was quick to praise the new player and hailed his defensive attributes. Villa lost the match 3-1, but despite this result, Lambert was impressed by Vlaar, who stood out amongst all the players.
The 27-year old was signed from Dutch outfit http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Feyenoord-c39258 last week on a three-year contract for a fee believed to be around the region of £3 million. He had a very impressive Euro 2012 with the Dutch national side, who collectively had been very poor. Despite
their dismal performance, Vlaar was able to stand out as he put in a series of solid defensive displays at the back.
Lambert was happy to see his signing turn up for the side and praised him. Speaking to the club’s official website after Villa’s game, he said:
"I thought Ron was excellent. I thought he was really commanding. I think Ron will do great for us. I know he's a very good player."
"Ron hasn't done too much regarding training but I thought he was excellent. I think he'll be a big favourite with the crowd, that's for sure."
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Darren-Bent-c10358 also returned from injury and is currently enjoying a good pre-season form. Lambert was happy to see his star striker and stand-in captain return.
“It's a big plus for us that Darren (Bent) returned. He's a natural goal-scorer and a threat. He's a little bit behind in terms of fitness but he's certainly a threat.”
"That will do him the world of good."
Villa’s defeat to Nottingham was their first this pre-season. The team just returend to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/United-States-c3034 where they faced a host of quality teams and managed to get results. The manager is unfazed by the
result, as he believes pre-season is all about experimenting and trying out new tactics and formations. He also said that he was looking to get his players fit and that pre-season was the perfect opportunity to help the players gel together.
