Wigan Athletic secured an emphatic win over the Villans, and the former Norwich City boss has admitted that it hurts to suffer three defeats in a row.
Aston Villa head coach, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Paul-c29347 Lambert, has expressed his disappointment over his side’s 0-3 thrashing at the hands of Wigan Athletic at Villa Park on Saturday, December 29.
The Villans suffered a crushing 8-0 defeat against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on December 23, before losing 4-0 at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur.
However, Villa were confident to claim a good result against Wigan, who were heading into the game on three successive defeats. Nonetheless, the Latics staged a brilliant show at Villa Park on December 29 to claim all three points.
And Lambert admitted that it was extremely disappointing to lose against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roberto-c31294 Martinez’s men on Saturday.
“Spurs are a really good team and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 too but there was a good chance against Wigan to break away. This was a side that came here with one point in six games and we are at home. That's the disappointing thing, when you are competing with everyone else
round about you and you get turned over 3-0 at home, then it certainly hurts you, that's for sure. It's a hard one to take”, the 43-year-old tactician was quoted as saying to the club’s official website.
The Villans barely survived relegation to Npower Championship at the end of the 2011/12 season, and it seems like that they will have to fight for their survival in the Premier League yet again this term.
However, the former St Mirren player has expressed confidence that his side will manage to avoid relegation to the English second flight come the end of the ongoing 2012/13 season.
“Everybody is in a fight. The last three results have certainly hurt us, there's no doubt about it because everybody was all positive after the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 game. But I've got the belief that Aston Villa will be fine”, Lambert concluded.
Aston Villa are currently sitting 17th on the Premier League table, one point clear of the relegation zone. They will take on Swansea City in their upcoming league game on Tuesday, January 1.
