  1. Carbohydrate or protein overload

    Colic (release of toxins into the bloodstream)

    Rich grass (too much of it)

    Fever or Infection (again, toxins in the bloodstream)

    Insulin Resistance/Metabloic Syndrome (Cushing's disease is a common cause of laminitis)

    Poor circulation in the hoof (possibly due to inactivity)

    Reactions to drugs (toxins again)

    Really, an excess of anything in your horse's diet or routine can contribute.


  2. Too much rich food,lots of spring grass,autumn grass. Being over weight.

    Not enough exercise.
