after a flood i was given a mandate to replace 50 sq metres of laminate flooring , however floors 2 go were charging close to 1100 pound for fitting , mandate was for only 1400 pound, ,i got onto independent inspections who assessed the cost of fitting , they allocated only 240 pound for fitting , aroung 6 pound per sq metre , all other fitters reckon 10 pound per sq metre as normal , insurance company will not accept this and will not help in fitting flooring above 240 pound , i now have boxes of flooring in my home with no one to lay it down for 240 pound , i feel completely let down by direct line , uk assistance , and independent inspections ,

  1. go to independant fitters and/or shops and get written quotes for fitting.

they will be about £10 m2+

tell the insurance co that that you are sending them through, get copies and then keep calling them for a response.

if no joy follow their complaints procedure as far as it goes up to the insurance ombudsman

    ask citizens advice for help

    edit

it says maybe badly that its 10 of your british pounds per square metre, its written in scientific language as m2 with 2 as a superscript but cant do that here. its said as square metre for the reason you say to stop confusion over it being (number) squared

  2. £240 is an utter insult for fitting as BWFA fitter I would be charging £450 for that amount of work, any less than £350 you are going to get a complete idiot fitting it.

Get 3-5 local trades to supply you with a written quote (good ones will supply one, cowboys won't) they can't argue with the going rate, some areas are more expensive than others citizens advice & trading standards should be some help.

Also to add who removed the old flooring as that should have been done by paid labour

    edit

hate to nit pick r m but it's sqm not m2, that is very bad maths 10m2 = 100 sq m.

  3. Hi - I fit laminate floors as part of my business service. Assuming floor is standard room, no awkward angles and lots of cutting (as in a kitchen for example), I would charge £320 - £350 to do this job - about 2 man days of labour.  So about £7/sq. metre.  Ã‚£6 per sq. metre is pushing it a bit. The quote for £1100 is really high and not justifiable.

Hope this helps. I am based in Wiltshire. London and South East prices would be higher.
