Laminating options: glue with plastic or spray on substance?

how can i laminate paper cards so they won't tear or fade (without using a laminate machine)? can i just glue some thin plastic onto the paper, will it come apart? is there a spray-on slick something that will seal the paper? other options? thankyou.

Clear Contact paper.  Can buy at Walmart.  Works great.

As far as I know you can buy laminate pouches that just adhere to the cards, and do not need a laminate machine.We have to have passes made up and they are done like that.
