Lamine Diack catches a ride on the London Javelin train – Athletics updates
Lamine Diack, the IAAF President, who is in London to observe the Aviva London Grand Prix, which is 12th leg of this year’s Samsung Diamond League series, took the chance to travel through London’s Javelin train. The train, which connects the
Renaissance Hotel to London’s Olympic Park, took only ten-fifteen minutes in covering the distance between the two destinations.
Next year, with the inauguration of the London Olympics, the train will become fully functional. During the entire event, it will transport the IAAF family, which is planned to stay in the newly renovated Renaissance Hotel, situated just above the St. Pancras
Station to the Olympic Park. The much awaited London Olympics are scheduled to kick-off in August, 2012.
Cherishing the ride, Diack, shared his experience in the following words, “It was a real pleasure to catch the javelin train this morning and arrive six minutes later at the Olympic Park. As we plan to use this San Pancras hotel as our hotel during games
time, I look forward to joining member of the IAAF family on the train as we can be at the stadium within 15 minutes which is fantastic.”
The best thing about this Javelin train is that it will significantly reduce the travelling time between the hotel to the Olympic Park, a journey, which usually takes about 30 or more minutes through road transport or London’s underground trains. London’s
administration, which is to host next year’s Olympic Games, has been engrossed into the preparation related work as it wishes to ensure the completion of preparatory work well ahead of the inauguration ceremony.
Appreciating this fact, President Diack said, “I was also very impressed to see the athletics track now virtually installed and believe that the stadium, which will have the decorative wrap, is certain to be an iconic landmark of the Olympics. The team led
by my friend and IAAF colleague Seb Coe has done an extraordinary job over the past four years to create a venue fit for Olympic dreams.”
He concluded his remarks by saying that he was anxiously waiting to come to London next year, for watching the Olympics competition actually taking place.
