Lamont Peterson: Bradley can beat Pacquiao only if he can take his punches – Boxing News
Lamont Peterson, light welterweight champion, asserts that if undefeated Timothy Bradley Jr. can survive Manny Pacquiao’s punches, he can beat him. He further stated that Bradley could give Manny a tough time only if the former sticks to a good strategy.
Manny Pacquiao currently holds the WBO welterweight title while Bradley holds the WBO light welterweight title. Commenting on both the fighters’ strengths and weaknesses, Peterson confidently iterated, “I think Timothy wins that fight. If he can take Pacquiao's
punch – because Pacquiao does have one-punch knockout power -- if he can take Pacquiao's punch all night, then Timothy wins the fight. That's my prediction on that fight.”
It should be noted here that Peterson has already faced Bradley in the ring in 2009. Peterson lost to Bradley via unanimous decision, which qualifies him to talk about Bradley’s in-ring strengths and weaknesses. Peterson also believes that a rematch with
Bradley is very much possible. He said, “It’'s a fight that will happen, it has to happen. I won't rest until it happens. Just me and him in the ring.”
Peterson is scheduled to face Amir Khan in a rematch on May 19, 2012. According to Peterson, if he beats Khan and Bradley beats Pacquiao then both of them can be in a rematch. On the possibility of a rematch, he said, “If he beats Pacquiao and I beat Khan,
and we put on that big pay-per-view fight. That would really mean a lot to me.”
As of now, Peterson is highly confident that he can beat Amir Khan in their rematch. Peterson defeated Khan in December 2011 via controversial decision, which irked Khan to file petitions against the decision in the WBC and IBF. After a long phase of uncertainty,
Khan finally struck a rematch with Peterson and is now training for the fight. Khan has been giving out media interviews showing confidence on himself and his skills. In his recent interview, Khan said he would not let any hurdle come in his way of beating
Peterson. If Khan beats Peterson, he will not only get his titles back but he will also regain his lost glory and pride.
