Lamont Peterson: I feel like the IBF cleared my name – Boxing News
In an interview to RIngTV.com, IBF light welterweight titlist Lamont Peterson expressed his joy over the International Boxing Federation’s decision of letting him keep the IBF title, even though he was found guilty of using drugs.
The Khan-Peterson saga, which started off after Khan’s loss to Peterson in December last year, has finally ended with an unexpected decision. Khan, who was hoping the IBF to strip Peterson off the title and ban him for life, was shocked over the verdict.
“Well, I'm just happy to be able to fight again and I'm happy that someone took the time and really went over the facts of this story, you know?” said Peterson.
“Because a lot of things can be said. Anybody can easily just come up and say anything and say that he did this or he took that,” he added.
When asked if he is happy with the IBF’s decision, Peterson said, “But once you look at the facts, you will see that that wasn't the case. But it seemed that not everybody wanted to do that, so there were a lot of people giving me a hard time.”
“But apparently, the IBF did the proper process of what they do and they did an excellent job. I feel like the IBF did the job and they cleared my name.”
On the other hand, Khan, who lost his WBA title to Danny Garcia on July 14, found it hard to believe that Peterson was allowed to keep the title. He tweeted saying ‘now it is okay to use drugs’. Khan unleashed a number of verbal attacks once again on Peterson
through his Twitter and made sure to condemn IBF’s decision in harsh words.
However, at this point in time, Khan is helpless. He cannot do much since he has already lost his reputation after being knocked out for the second time in his career. Khan’s loss to Garcia was damaging, while Peterson is now enjoying the immunity.
The world of boxing has already been damaged enough by drugs and other illegal activities and now the IBF’s decision has led many to believe that drugs being taken as ‘medications’ are good to go.
