Lamont Peterson: Khan cannot change his strategy – Boxing News
Lamont Peterson, the current WBA and IBF super light-welterweight champion, believes Amir Khan cannot change his game plan. According to Peterson, Khan will again lose to him since he already knows what Khan will bring to the ring.
Peterson’s statement came in connection to Khan’s coach Freddie Roach’s statement. Roach claimed that he will alter Khan’s fighting style completely which will give Khan an edge over Peterson. Observing the same, Peterson noted, "He'll do what he always does, he always fights the same. He's either straight forward or straight back. That's the way he fights, he's not going to change it. The way the fight went the first time, I was pretty comfortable with it. I won the fight so I really don't want to change anything. His strategy [in the first fight] was to hit and move and I didn't allow him to do it. It won't be any different this time. He'll hit and move and I'll stay close and smother him."
Peterson further said that the referee would be the key in the game since Khan had claimed the referee being unjust in their first match. He said that he will win and he will make sure he does whatever it takes to win the match, adding that he will be relaxed the way he always is in the ring. Peterson also said that by making statements and thinking too much about the fight, Khan is pressurising himself and no one else.
Amir Khan, after his first match with Peterson, has been pretty furious over whatever happened. Even the IBF admitted that there were irregularities in the match. Khan never admitted his defeat and he still calls himself the champion which according to Peterson is a way of making himself pressurised. Peterson also said that this indeed is the greatest fight of Khan and if he loses again he will be broken into pieces and he will never the same again since he is mentally not ready to accept the defeat.
Khan will take on Peterson on May 19 at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. This would be Khan’s last chance to win back his titles.
