Lamont Peterson eyeing showdown against Bradley or Marquez if not Judah – Boxing News
Lamont Peterson, the current IBF light welterweight titlist, is hopeful of getting a match against Zab Judah. However, the American believes if not Judah then he might settle for Mexican Juan Manuel Marquez or unbeaten American WBO welterweight titlist Timothy
Bradley.
In a recent interview with RingTV.com, Peterson spoke about his upcoming opponents, asserting that Zab Judah is number one priority but he can go for Marquez of Bradley if Judah is not interested.
Previously, Peterson revealed that he wants to go head to head with Zab Judah, former welterweight champion and junior welterweight titleholder.
When asked if he wants to fight Judah or Marquez, Peterson said, “I think that we'll go forward with the Zab Judah fight for now. The only way that I think I'll be able to fight a Marquez or any other fighter other than Zab Judah is if I'm allowed to fight
someone else and keep my IBF title.”
“Right now, considering that I really appreciate the IBF and what they did, then I'm going to continue to be their champion for as long as I'm able to. I won't just dump their belt to fight someone else,” said Peterson.
It should be noted here that Peterson was scheduled to face former WBA and IBF light welterweight titlist Amir Khan on May 19 at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. However, Peterson’s positive drug test report that appeared by the end of April
caused the match to be cancelled.
Khan, who was shocked with the revelation, called Peterson a ‘cheat’ on several platforms, asking the IBF and the WBA to strip him off his title. While the World Boxing Association did strip Peterson off, the IBF reserved its decision for further inquiry.
Last week, the IBF announced that Peterson is allowed to keep the title, believing that the champion had illegal substance in his body due to medications that had no effect on his performance whatsoever. IBF’s verdict was and is being criticised widely as
being a one sided decision, especially by Amir Khan and his allies.
Khan was hopeful of regaining the title if Peterson was stripped off but now his dreams are shattered.
