Lamont Peterson names Danny Garcia as a possible opponent – Boxing News
Lamont Peterson, the current IBF light welterweight titlist, has named Danny Garcia as a possible opponent for his next fight. Peterson is currently eyeing a match against former lightweight champion Zab Judah. However, there has not been a reply from Judah’s
camp, which is making Peterson doubt the possibility of the match.
In his recent interview with RingTV.com, Peterson revealed names of the fighters he wants to fight. According to Peterson, if Judah is not interested in the fight, then he might go for Juan Manuel Marquez, Timothy Bradley or Danny Garcia.
“If not him (Marquez), then Danny Garcia, because I feel that with the win that he had over Amir Khan that he's the next in line to face me next to Marquez,” asserted Peterson who is hoping to go head to head with Marquez sometime soon.
When asked if a match against Timothy Bradley would be suitable, Bradley replied, “That would be a good move for me. Going up to 147 pounds wouldn't be a problem for me. I know that that fight will eventually happen again. If that was my next fight, then
that would definitely make me happy.”
Peterson, who was recently cleared by the IBF for using illegal substance and was allowed to retain his IBF belt, is satisfied with the commission’s decision.
After his victory over Amir Khan in December last year, Peterson has been under a lot of criticism. His positive drug test report that emerged in April, just twenty days before his rematch with Khan, made him lose the WBA title. According to the World Boxing
Association, no fighter is allowed to keep the title if he has tested positive for drugs.
On the other hand, the IBF had reserved its decision for further inquiry. As of now the International Boxing Federation has allowed Peterson to retain the title, believing that the drugs found in his body were for therapeutic usage and did not enhance his
performance.
The entire scenario has irked many fighters, including Amir Khan. Most of them believe that IBF’s decision has encouraged others to go on drugs under the banner of ‘medications’.
