Lamont Peterson says he will be putting in extra effort to beat Amir Khan in his hometown – Boxing
The Havoc, Lamont Peterson, is fully geared-up ahead of the biggest fight of his career thus far against the Bolton’s finest pugilist, Amir Khan, who is currently the unified World Boxing Association Super and International Boxing Federation Light Welterweight
Champion.
Khan, who is more commonly known as King Khan, wants to build up his image in the US and he said he picked Washington because it is a city of America.
However, the 27-year-old, Peterson, who will challenge Khan for his titles on December 10, 2011 in a 12-round bout at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, Washington D.C, told the media he was shocked upon knowing that Khan wants to fight him in his
hometown.
Peterson remarked, “I always thought I'd win a title in Vegas or somewhere, and bring it back to my hometown,” he said. “I never thought I'd be fighting for a title in my hometown. It shocked me a bit. When I heard D.C. I thought, 'that's just a joke, that's
them talking.’”
Peterson, who has won 29 of his 31 professional fights (1 Draw), with 15 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, stated he will put in a lot of extra hard work, as the Columbian pugilist said he does not want to lose such a great chance in front of
his home crowd.
“Just feeling comfortable in my hometown. It'll make me train that much harder to protect my home turf,” he said. “You want to win at home. So I'll be putting the extra miles in as far as running, and hitting the bag extra rounds and sparring extra rounds
because I don't want to lose at home.”
Khan, who holds a record of winning 26 of his 27 professional fights, with 18 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, is aiming a super-fight with the undefeated American legend Floyd Mayweather. Moreover, this is Khan’s concluding fight at 140 pounds
division. Therefore, he will try his best to win. Let’s see if Peterson can upset Khan on the fight night.
