Lamont Peterson weighing options against Amir Khan or Juan Manuel Marquez – Boxing news
Lamont Peterson, along with his manager and trainer Barry Hunter, is weighing his options of either having a rematch with Amir Khan or to face Juan Manuel Marquez.
If Lamont goes for the latter option, he will be clashing with Juan Manuel Marquez in Top Rank’s mini-tournament, and if Peterson wins, he will be getting a shot on Manny Pacquiao by the end of this year.
Fighting Juan Manuel Marquez will be a great career leap for Peterson which he is considering to go for. However, Amir Khan, on the other hand, is trying his level best to get his hands on the current champion to prove his mettle for boxing.
As reported by Golden Boy Promotions, Peterson and Hunter are now showing resistance towards having a rematch with Khan, even though a very lucrative deal has been put on the cards for them.
On Saturday night, in an interview with RingTV.com, Richard Schaefer revealed that Khan’s side has offered a pretty lucrative deal to Peterson for the rematch.
He asserted, “We're working on some very good stuff. We did what we could to make it happen. We offered him $1.5 million and we offered him a 50-50 split of worldwide revenues. If he doesn't want to do it, then he doesn't want to do it. You can't force them.”
When asked, Bob Arum, promoter of Manny Pacquiao, revealed that Juan Manuel Marquez has agreed to fight Peterson but details of the match are still to be discussed with Barry.
“I told Barry that we would talk again on Monday,” said Arum. “But Marquez already has agreed to the fight.”
After his controversial defeat with Lamont, former unified WBA (Super) & IBF light welterweight champion Amir Khan has been trying to get his rematch with Peterson. However, to date he has not been able to fix things in his way.
As of now, Khan is still counting on Peterson to give his final answer as to whether he will play Amir or not. Amir’s offer to Peterson shows how desperate he is to get his titles back, but seems like his rematch is not happening anytime soon.
