I have these minilamps (LED's) that use the hearing aid batteries (same kind) and just want to know (may be to try) if is possible to fix them to work whith electricity I would like to grow in-door plants (aquatic plants)and I think it would work or do you thing it would be better for me to spend 300 dlls and get them from the store?

My budget is very limited.

  1. It would probably not be worth the cost and effort. Firstly, the lamp is low voltage so you would need the cord, plus a transformer to reduce the voltage from 110 volts to a lower voltage and it would have to convert AC to DC (alternating current to direct current). Then you would need to wire it up. Your better off finding a lamp designed for that purpose. Keep in mind that plants require the right spectrum of light to grow well. Head down to a well stocked pet store and have a look at the fluorescent lights they sell. They usually have information printed on the boxes to indicate what parts of the spectrum each lamp produces and for what application. I don't think LED light produce enough, or the right kind of light for growing good aquatic plants.

  2. Actually, white LEDs provide the spectrums of light needed by most plants.

All you need to know to plug you flashlight into the wall is the operating voltage. What voltage do the batteries put out?

Once you have that, simply hook up an unused wall charger (between 9-24VDC) to an appropriate Voltage Regulator (an LM7805, for example, for a 5VDC output), then feed that to your flashlight.

If that doesn't make sense, you may need to just break down and spend the $300.

    Hope that helps!
