Chelsea midfielder, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Frank-Lampard-c14097 has claimed that the Blues Premier League campaign will not be affected by their Champions League progression this season.
The 33 year old turned down the notion that the Blues are aiming for European cup glory, whilst taking their eyes off their league duties.
"We have to fight on both levels. We certainly don't feel like all our eggs are in the European basket and the league just goes by," he said.
The Stamford Bridge side are currently placed fifth in the league table and need to win the Champions League or end up in the top four in the Premier League in order to qualify for the next year’s competition.
Chelsea, who last won the league title in 2010 when they edged Manchester United by a single point, have experienced a tough season. The Stamford Bridge side went through a difficult period under the management of their former boss, Andre Villas Boas, with
some of the key players, most notably the 50 million pound striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-Torres-c13707, were seen off colour and failed to make a mark for most of the season.
However, the Blues have made a good recovery and have been in impressive form in their last couple of games. But Lampard lamented that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786’s current position in the league is not what they are used to and was disappointed that his side are unable to
fight out for a top place this season.
"Where we are now in the table, we're disappointed to not be fighting for first or second but you have to understand that you can't have it your own way every year," added the midfielder.
Chelsea are five points behind Arsenal and Tottenham and with just seven more games to play in the league, Lampard admitted that the Blues are the underdogs in their pursuit of a top four finish.
He pointed out that the team needed to win the most of their remaining matches in order to catch up with their London rivals.
“..if you're being honest about it, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 and Tottenham are in the driving seat. So we really need to go on a stretch of winning games.”
