Lampard to miss weekend clash with Manchester City
It would be hard to criticize the recent form of Chelsea in the English Premiership as they have run out to a sizable lead at the top of the table. They will, however, be without the services of their inspirational midfielder Frank Lampard for what could
be their toughest match to date against Manchester City.
Reports indicate that the 32-year-old midfielder has re-aggravated a lingering groin injury and could be out of the lineup for a further three weeks. Lampard hasn't seen action since he was subbed off due to injury in Chelsea's 2-0 victory over Stoke City
back on Aug. 28. Further reports suggest that Lampard has had difficulty recovering from the injury and, given the depth at midfield that Chelsea possess, the medical staff will not give him clearance to play until he is one hundred percent fit to play. Chelsea
expect their veteran midfielder to be out of the lineup for at least the next three matches placing the lion's share of the midfield duties on the likes of Michael Essien, Jon Obi Mikel, and Florent Malouda.
Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti expressed his disappointment at losing one of the key ingredients to his squad, and noted that Lampard's presence on the field would be missed. The Chelsea boss does feel confident, though, that what he does have left at his
disposal will be enough to overcome a tough Manchester City side, and that his team will be able to continue its recent form.
Chelsea have been perfect in the league so far this season jumping out to an early lead with five wins in five matches. In that time they've also managed to amass a whopping twenty-one goals (averaging of just over four per game) with only one conceded.
Lampard has one goal in the three matches he's played in.
