Lancashire overcome Durham easily by 26 runs: Friends Life Twenty20 - Second Innings Recap
Durham would have been disappointed to concede 161 runs against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lancashire-c806 in a match of the Friends Life Twenty20, at the Old Trafford, Manchester in England on Friday, July 1, 2011.
The visitors’ captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Dale-Benkenstein-c1302, had opted to field first after winning the toss and would have liked to restrict the opposition below 140. However, his bowlers disappointed him in the end, giving away plenty of runs to the opposition.
Although Lancashire’s total was a good one, the visitors had the depth in their batting to chase it down. They needed a good start by their top-order, but failed to get it and were restricted to 135/9 in their allotted 20 overs.
Durham’s lower-order player, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/LE-Plunkett-c1833, fought back hard for his side, but it was a little too late in the innings. He ended up being the top scorer for his side with 41 runs, but the effort went in vain.
The playing conditions were still good for the batsmen, but the ball didn’t come onto the bat, which made life difficult for the visitors.
The innings was started by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Phil-Mustard-c2183. They would have hoped for a positive start to the innings, but the latter failed to get going and was sent back to the pavilion in the very first over after collecting one
run.
England’s all-rounder, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ian-Blackwell-c1569, was promoted to bat at number three in order to give some momentum to the innings with his aggressive style of batting. The flamboyant batsman failed to make an impression and was dismissed after adding just four runs
to the total.
Former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Young-c98322 Pakistani paceman, Junaid Khan.
Wickets kept on falling in the innings, as the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Durham-c782’s captain didn’t last long either. He lasted just six balls at the crease and managed five runs. He was followed by Muchall, who tried to steady the innings for his team, but failed to do so and was dismissed
for 13 off 17 deliveries.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gareth-Breese-c1458 was the sixth wicket to fall in the innings and the visitors were struggling at that stage at 49/6.
However, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Scott-Borthwick-c2466 and Plunkett played well towards the end of the innings, saving their team from a humiliating defeat. They scored 30 and 41 in their respective outings, but failed to win the match for Durham.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Stephen-David-Parry-c91060 bowled well for the home team, picking up two wickets each.
