Lancashire post a decent first innings total against Durham
A solid half-century from Lancashire’s opener, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013. The visitors were bowled out for 313 on day-one
of play on Sunday, May 29th, 2011.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Phil-Mustard-c2183, who is the wicketkeeper and skipper of Durham, chose to field after winning the toss, as he expected the ball to do some tricks in the first couple of hours of play. The pitch seemed to have some moisture and the home team’s bowlers made full
use of it getting some early wickets.
Opening batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Stephen-Moore-c2572, was the first man to be dismissed in the Lancashire innings after scoring just four runs. He was followed by the team’s first-drop, Karl Brown, who was scoring runs with consistency for his team. It was certainly not his day,
as Brown was sent back to the pavilion after adding just fours runs to the total with his team struggling at nine for two.
The fall of two quick wickets brought, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mark-Chilton-c1900, at the crease. He took a long time to settle down, but was involved in a 77-run stand with Horton for the third wicket. Bulk of the runs in the partnership came off the bat of Horton, as Chilton was dismissed
after a struggling innings of 12 runs from 60 balls.
The visitors’ opener was involved in another solid partnership of 72 runs with middle-order batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Steven-Croft-c2583, but got out after scoring 94 runs. He played really well and deserved a century, but was unable to handle the pressure of batting in the nineties.
Horton’s classy knock included 15 fours.
Croft was the next man to follow after managing 38 runs in his innings. He played well, but would have liked to carry onto the start to his innings and make a big one for his team.
Lancashire’s wicketkeeper batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tom-Smith-c2704, who ended up with 32 runs.
The visitors were in a difficult situation with seven wickets down for 225 runs on the board. However, an 87-run stand between lower-order batsmen, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Glen-Chapple-c60141, guided the team’s total above 300.
Both played did a decent job for their team, but missed out on half-centuries, as they got out after scoring 45 and 46 respectively. The last three wickets in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Durham-c782.
Left-arm spinner, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ian-Blackwell-c1569, did a terrific job with the ball, dismissing three batsmen.
