The Lancashire county cricket club on Friday signed former England pace bowler Kabir Ali from Hampshire on a two-year contract, in a bid to regain their Division one status next season.
The Red Rose county was relegated in the LV = County Championship this September, under veteran all-rounder http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Glen-Chapple-c60141, whom the county last month retained as their skipper for a fifth straight season. Kabir Ali said that he was excited at the prospect of playing alongside Chapple.
“Lancashire is a fantastic club with a proud history and great traditions. I am excited at the prospect of working under http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Peter-Moores-c81848 and his coaching team as well as playing alongside Glen Chapple, who is still one of the best in the country,” said the seamer.
“Lancashire has an exciting and emerging squad and I am looking forward to playing my part in the challenges ahead,” he added further.
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hampshire-c789 was marred by injuries, but this year he managed to play eight championship matches, seven Clydesdale Bank 40 and four Friends Life T20 games.
His best performance for the Royals this season came in the CB40 final against Warwickshire, in which he managed to defend seven runs from the last over to allow his side to win the drawn match on the basis of less wickets lost, and clinch the cup.
Kabir, 31, also played 14 One Day Internationals and a lone Test match for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757, in August 2003, which saw him picking up five wickets, but failed to defend the team from falling to a 191-run defeat, and never got a second chance.
Lancashire cricket director http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michael-Watkinson-c76240 also expressed delight over the signing and hoped his inclusion would be a great boast to the Red Rose county's attack.
“We are pleased to bring in Kabir whose experience and proven track record in all forms of the game will be of great benefit to our bowling unit.”
