Lancashire sign Simon Katich for 2013 – Cricket News Update
Lancashire county on Wednesday signed seasoned Australian batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SM-Katich-c2543 as their overseas player for the 2013 season.
The 37-year-old Western Australia top-order batsman, who had a brief stint with the Red Rose county during 2010, will be available for the entire 2013 season as Lancashire aim to return to Division One of the LV = County Championship.
Katich, a former Australian Test opener, has played for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 after winning the Flt20 and the CB40 with Hampshire last season, but decided to continue his cricketing career at the Old Trafford.
Katich's vast experience earned him offers from a number of counties, but he signed for Lancashire and said that the Red Rose county’s "professionalism and attention to detail" was the reason behind his decision.
In an official club statement, the former Australian Test cricketer said that he was delighted to be returning to Old Trafford and hoped to help the county reclaim Division One status.
"I am delighted to be returning to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Western-Australia-c865 batsman, a veteran of 56 Tests and 45 One day Internationals.
"Lancashire are a proud club who I am sure will be looking to head straight back up to Division One and I'm determined to play a big part in this happening," the left-hander hoped.
Katich also thanked his previous county Hampshire saying, "I would like to thank everyone at http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hampshire-c789 Cricket for all they have done for me. I leave with many great friends and fond memories. "
His task at Old Trafford will be to bring stability to Lancashire's batting line-up after a dismal 2012 season.
