Lancashire v Middlesex - County Championship Division One – Day 4 – Live Score and Update
Lancashire 392 & 266/8d v Middlesex 230 & 265/1 (96.0 ov) - Match drawn
The four-day match between Lancashire and Middlesex in the ongoing County Championship Division One tournament concluded on a draw after http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lancashire-c806 failed to bowl-out the opposition while defending a staggering total of 429 runs at Aigburth, Liverpool.
The day began with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Middlesex-c817 resuming their run chase from a total of 29 runs with all wickets intact.
Skipper, CJL Rogers was just too good for anyone to bowl-out as he played a captain’s knock by piling an innings of 138 runs to deny Lancashire an imminent victory.
Had it not been for the astounding effort from the skipper, Middlesex might not have been able to end the match in a draw as the asking score was just too big to chase.
For Lancashire, the match was there for the taking but they blew the opportunity as the bowlers looked completely out of phase, as they got smacked by Robson and Rogers.
The Middlesex opening duo jammed 104 runs before the partnership came to its eventual demise on the wicket of Robson who was caught by wicketkeeper Cross off the bowling of 28-year-old, medium pacer http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kyle-Hogg-c1824 after hammering a half century.
The skipper was then joined by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JL-Denly-c1703 as the pair jabbed another formidable resistance in the face of defeat.
This pair was perhaps the most important in keeping Lancashire away from victory, while for the fielding side; they just never seemed aggressive enough to subdue the batting team.
Middlesex steadfast as they ended the day by smashing 265 runs with Rogers standing on a proud innings of 138 and Denly on a tally of 61 to his name.
Meanwhile, a day earlier, Lancashire had batted well in their second innings, keeping the glory of victory in mind as they hammered Middlesex bowlers for just 266 runs before declaring the innings, giving their opposition a huge tally to chase.
Nonetheless, Middlesex’s DJ Malan was spectacular as he bagged five wickets in nine overs to halt the rapid flow of runs, creating chaos in the ranks of Lancashire.
With the match ending on a draw, Lancashire now have 38 points, while Middlesex are sitting with 63 points.
