http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Northamptonshire-c824: Friends Life T20 - Second Innings Recap
Northamptonshire were considered to be the favourites after Lancashire were restricted to a lesser total in a match of the Friends Life T20, at County Ground, Northampton in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 on Tuesday, July 12, 2011.
The visitors could only manage 110 runs for the loss of nine wickets in their outing after their captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Steven-Croft-c2583, decided to bat first at the toss. His decision appeared to be a bad one at the end of the innings, but it eventually turned out to be
very good.
The hosts failed to reach their target and only managed 107 runs for the loss of five wickets at the end of their allotted 20 overs. Middle-order batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Alex-George-Wakely-c43114, top scored the match with a brilliant half-century, collecting 52 runs for his team, but
the effort went in vain.
There wasn’t http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gordon-James-Muchall-c60376 change in the nature of the pitch. The ball did some tricks off the wicket and there was plenty of bounce and pace for the bowlers, which made batting a touch difficult.
Northamptonshire would have hoped for a good start to their chase, but were disappointed to lose a couple of early wickets.
Ireland’s Niall O’Brien was unable to make an impression and was sent back to the pavilion without troubling the scorers.
South Africa’s star all-rounder, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Short-c90107 stay at the crease.
The conditions were not easy and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rob-White-c2341 tried to steady the ship for his team. He got excellent support from Wakely, who paced his innings brilliantly. The pair put together 62 runs for the third wicket partnership, guiding their side to a commanding
position.
However, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/White-c96514 was unable to make most of the start he got to his innings and was dismissed at a crucial stage of the innings. He scored 33 runs from 48 balls, striking just one boundary in his steady knock.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bilal-Mustapha-Shafayat-c48092 was the next man to be dismissed after collecting nine runs from 11 deliveries.
However, the turning point of the innings was the run-out of Wakely, who had batted superbly until that point of his innings. He was the only player to score a fifty in the match, but was unable to stay until the end.
The seasoned campaigner ended up with 52 runs off 46 balls with the help of four boundaries.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/David-Willey-c1342 faced seven balls and could only manage three runs, resulting in his team’s loss. Although the hosts lost just five wickets in their innings, they were unable to chase 111 for victory.
Pakistan’s promising http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Junaid-Khan-c77037 was declared Player-of-the-Match for his brilliant spell of bowling for Lancashire. He finished with figures of 12/2 in four overs.
