With Lancashire facing a possible relegation, the team performed well on Thursday against Somerset to keep them at bay in the four-day match, at Aigburth, Liverpool, after they were restricted on a meagre first innings tally of 185 runs.
At stumps on the second day of play, Somerset trail by 36 runs with their last pair in the middle.
The day began with Lancashire resuming their first innings from an overnight tally of 129 runs with five wickets down.
The pair of AP Agathangelou and GD Cross failed to prosper against the bowlers, as without adding a run, the team saw the demise of Cross, who lost the battle on a tally of seven runs.
Agathangelou was then joined by KW Hogg and the two batsmen took the score to 153, before Hogg was removed by AC Thomas, after scorinhttp://www.senore.com/Cricket/David-John-Goodchild-c52940 an innings of 13 runs off 15 deliveries.
The partnership between Agathangelou and skipper G Chapple then rallied the total to 161 runs, before the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lancashire-c806 skipper fell to Thomas after mounting a knock of six runs.
SP Kirby then took the prized wicket of Agathangelou, who walked back to the pavilion after smashing a knock of 24 runs. Later, Lancashire faltered with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/A-Shahzad-c874 unbeaten on a score of 11 runs
Somerset’s PD Trego and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Dawid-Malan-c1344 Thomas were the top bowler for sharing four wickets.
Lancashire then had a fantastic start to their bowling when they nabbed their first wicket with only a run on the board, as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Somerset-c843’s opener AV Suppiah had his stumps blown to bits by G Chapple without scoring a run.
Then with four runs on the board, Lancashire grabbed the wicket of Somerset’s skipper, ME Trescothick, who fell after scoring only a run.
Middle-order batsmen, NRD Compton and JC Hildreth lead a rebuild phase, as they tried to forge a brave resistance against Lancashire’s mighty bowling line-up.
With 50 runs on the board, Compton became the third wicket to fall from his side, as he was trapped in front of stumps after hammering 22 runs.
Lancashire used only four bowlers on day-two as SC Kerrigan and G Chapple lead the belligerent bowling offensive by grabbing three wickets each.
With Somerset’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jonathan-Clare-c1729 Hildreth as the top batsman for posting a tally of 45, Lancashire bowled out Somerset on a first innings total of 149.
