Lancashire v Sussex - County Championship Division One – Live Cricket Scores and Update
Lancashire 124 v Sussex 137/3 (41.0 ov) - Sussex lead by 13 runs with 7 wickets remaining in the 1st innings
April, 12: The first day of the four-day match between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lancashire-c806 and Sussex in the County Championship Division One was extremely eventful as both teams went against each other with brute force, aiming to subdue the other side, at Aigburth, Liverpool.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sussex-c852 after winning the toss, chose to field and the bowlers responded well by breaking the opening partnership with only 12 runs on the board.
From Lancashire, opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Stephen-Moore-c2572 was the first to fall as he walked back to the pavilion after scoring an innings of eight runs off 34 deliveries.
The side lost their second wicket on the same total with opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Paul-Horton-c2167 following his opening partner back to the pavilion after scoring just three runs off 26 deliveries.
Later, the side lost another wicket with only 16 runs on the board and were caught under pressure as they were losing wickets sooner than they had expected.
This was the time when they needed someone to buck up and bat the side to dominance. However, Sussex did not relax for a moment as they kept tightening the screws around the batting side, making it extremely difficult to score runs.
With http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Steven-Croft-c2583, came in as the ultimate saviour for his team and belted an awesome innings of 50 runs under extreme pressure.
While the batsman was crafting this perfect innings, wickets were falling around him like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gareth-Berg-c1457; however, he held his own and kept the scoreboard ticking.
Nonetheless, Sussex medium-pacer, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Anyon-c1637, was just too good for any of the batsmen to counter as the side faltered on 124 runs in their first innings with Anyon taking five wickets in his 14.2 overs.
With 41 overs remaining in the day, Sussex began their innings, aiming to humble the first innings total posted by Lancashire.
Unfortunately for them, they also suffered a terrible start to their innings as they lost three of their top wickets with only 15 runs on the board.
However, opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MH-Yardy-c1946 halted the bowling onslaught as they belted 48 and 70 runs to post 137 runs at stumps.
