Lancashire v Sussex: Friends Life Twenty20 – Quarter-Final – Sussex’s Innings
Sussex had to chase down 153 runs for victory against Lancashire in a Quarter-Final match of the Friends Life Twenty20 at the County Ground, Hove in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 on Monday, August 8, 2011.
The hosts had a lot of depth in their batting line-up, but would have been under pressure to chase in a knock-out game. The team’s batting failed to cope up with the pressure situation and was restricted to 132 for the loss of eight wickets in their allotted
20 overs.
Conditions were not the easiest for batting, as the wicket had become slower with the passage of time. However, it was not impossible for the batsmen to chase down more than 150 runs.
Unfortunately for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sussex-c852, their batting failed to deliver in pressure situation, as only three players managed to take their scores in double figures. The highest score of the innings came from Pakistan’s Naved-ul-Hasan, who collected 34 runs towards the
end of the innings.
The solid effort from the veteran all-rounder went in vain in the end, as he lacked support from the other end.
Sussex would have hoped for a solid start from their openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lou-Vincent-c73143. The pair had the ability to take the game away from the opposition, but failed to deliver in yesterday’s game.
Vincent was the first man to be dismissed in the innings after failing to open his account. The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 batsman got out for a duck off the first ball and had to take a long walk back to the pavilion.
Wicketkeeper batsman Ben Brown came in at number three, but failed to make an impression. He managed just 2 runs off 4 balls in his short stay at the crease.
Adding insult to injury, Joyce was run-out after collecting 7 runs from 10 balls. His wicket saw the hosts under immense pressure, as they were struggling at 31/3 at that stage of the innings.
The innings was given some stability by middle-order players http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MH-Yardy-c1946. The pair collected 41 runs for the fourth wicket partnership.
However, Nash was unable to make most of the start he got to his innings and was sent back to the pavilion after adding 31 runs to the total from 34 deliveries. He struck five boundaries in his outing.
Just one run later, Yardy was also sent back to the pavilion, leaving his side under immense pressure. The veteran all-rounder got out after scoring 24 runs off the same number of deliveries faced.
There was some fight back from Naved-ul-Hasan, who ended up with 34 runs from 27 balls towards the end of the innings. His effort was not enough to guide the team into the final four of the tournament.
